So his time was free then?

Presumably Ian meant he couldn't charge his 'labour' rate, but only for his labour.

If you think garages are bad try British Gas for a replacement boiler, Quoted us around £1,500 for fitting, we went with another (well known firm) the new boiler took around 5 hours to install so BG are asking £300 an hour

When I was younger, nobody ever changed brake fluid. Has the stuff go less reliable?

    How old are you?

Changing the brake fluid has always been part of a cars service schedule.

As it absorbs water and therefore gets less efficient.
