Baggage Delay - rights

Hi,
my OH recently returned from Heathrow without his luggage, which had been left in Istanbul by Turkish Airlines. He waited for 18 days before it turned up, during which time he made 'phone calls to the airline and to Global Baggage Solutions to try and track it down. These have cost in excess of £40, so I'm wondering whether we can claim any recompense from the airline. Obviously we have evidence of the calls and the costs.
Any help/advice gratefully received.

Have the airline not offered any compensation at all for the delayed baggage? Usually they would offer a token amount for each day that you are without your bags. I would also check your travel insurance, as dependent on your policy you may be able to claim something from them.Lea

Helpful, thanks.

I dont think that applies if you are coming home.
They will of course give you money for required bits when you are on holiday because you have no choice about buying stuff that needs replacing overseas but there have been a couple of threads on here and it seems that the general behavour of airlines is to not give compensation if you are in your home country.
Its slightly different but 3 years ago my ex had her bag lost coming back from jfk with virgin and we never saw it again and reading through all the legal gubbins they sent us there was no mention about compensation and we had to fight to get anything for the lost bag and that didnt really cover the value of the contents.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
