  • Just to let you know, my sister was brought back to Ireland last Saturday. She has acute myeloid leukaemia and is critically ill & on life support. She's a very strong young lady and we're hoping & praying she has the strength to pull through xxx

Best of luck to her and your family. Fortunately the Irish Government stepped in.

I hope anyone reading this will remember your problems when next debating the need for travel insurance, as I suspect the British Govt wouldn't have stepped in like this.
  • And I hope as soon as you're able, you will start organising charity fundraising and awareness raising to make sure others get the message that the unexpected can happen to anybody and travel insurance shouldn't be considered optional.

After all- you'd have been doing that frantically now if the Irish taxpayer hadn't stepped in.

If you could repay the costs, it would send out the signal that you didn't 'get away with it' and probably make the Government more able to help others in the future.

I hope she comes through this.

    Good luck.
  • BarneyRubble - you don't know how much I appreciate the Irish tax payer for stepping in. I'll be the first to say how stupid she was for going away without insurance. We haven't 'got away with it' & would gladly pay the money back over time x

  • Sadly my sister passed away last Wednesday. She gave it everything she had but the Leukemia was stronger. She's at peace now with my mum who passed away last year. Thanks again for all your help & advice. And please don't travel without insurance xxx
