We are taking our 1 year old abroad for the first time next May but the apartment we are renting doesnt have/provide a travel cot. Has anybody taken one abroad with them? If so did you have to pay excess baggage on the flight?

Yes of course.
Could you not hire a cot?0 -
Or buy on in resort. Use a draw. Seems daft to pay excess baggage on something that'll cost a similar amount to buy new.The futures bright the future is Ginger0

Where are you going? Post the resort and someone will have had either experience of hiring a cot, or know of somewhere you can get one. Loads of resorts have rental companies.0

Little life tent style travel cots are tiny - they fit into hand luggage.0

Easyjet let you take 2 pieces of children's equipment free (for each child) including travel cots.

When my OH was resident in Prague with his job, he took a travel cot for our grandchild to use when visiting. It was FOC with Czech Airlines. The child wasn't actually flying when he took the cot.0

Most airlines (please check BEFORE purchasing flights though) allow 2 pieces of baby luggage from:
Travel Cot
Buggy/Push Chair
Car Seat
But please check before you buy any airline tickets and get it in writing from them that there is no extra charge. I know Thomas Cook and Thomson both had this policy in the last 6 months, however this could have changed.0
