Help ... Can I claim?

I would really appreciate some advice ............
My husband and I went off on holiday last Friday, only to receive a phone call on the Saturday to say that his father had taken a turn for the worse and we had to get the next flight home, we managed to get seats to fly early Sunday morning. Incidentally his father passed away. Flights were booked with Ryanair.
In essence we paid £560 for two flights to Portugal 22nd - 31st August and then had to pay £136 to change them, £55 for airport transfers when we were only able to use one leg of our airport transfer as they could not provide a driver to take us back to the airport at such short notice, and £67 for airport parking for 8 days, when the car was left for less than 48 hours.
His father had recently become ill, however, we had booked the flights and transfers 3 months previous.
We have Travel Insurance with Direct Line, would we be able to claim and if so how?
Many thanks

First thing you need to do is read your policy to see if you have curtailment cover, then read the T&C's concerning that part of the policy. There should also be a section entitled 'how to make a claim'Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

It will most likely simply come down to if the cause of the sickness was linked to a pre-existing condition (relative to when you bought the later of the holiday or the insurance)
As long as he'd never had a related illness prior to you buying both insurance and the holiday then the prospects of a claim are reasonable assuming it has curtailment cover (most do)0 -
You really need to ask your insurance company, only they can tell you whether you are covered or nottravelover0

And be careful, some have a clause that you need to contact them immediately rather than after the event. In any case, sorry for your loss and good luck with then claim0

Unless the delay in reporting causes additional losses or prejudices their ability to investigate its unlikely that any claim reporting time limit would stand up to a challenge0
