Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.....

...... but after just finding out I was paying PPI on a credit card I had 12/14 years ago, I wondered. When I got into difficulty with paying the monthly CC bill, should the minimum payment not have been covered? Even when I didn't know I was paying the PPI? Is that what PPI is sold for? Instead, after not being able to pay it for 2/3 months I got the mandatory letters claiming my my credit scoring had been affected and they may take proceedings to the courts to claim the money back.
Am I just barking up the wrong tree?

I cant see how you can say you didn't know you were paying it unless you just binned your statements as soon as you received them

PPI is there on every one of them on a separate line.

No, it's insurance to cover your payments if you are made redundant or are too ill to work. You would also have to make a claim on this insurance, it would not have kicked in automatically.
It does not cover limited periods of "financial difficulty" in which you simply fail to pay the bill.

This pre-supposes statements were being read, of course.
