Selling for a charity

I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction for advice on this.

I work for a small charity. On a small scale we have been buying a batch of bags made by another charity and selling them on for a small profit - this is with their agreement.

Until now we've sold them face to face: taking a batch of bags to 'events' and selling them with payment on the spot. But we're hoping to expand the number we buy and sell, producing a leaflet which can be sent to supporters, and taking orders by post. Also because we have a much wider range, we're thinking we'd take an example of each bag to 'events' and take orders which we would then post out.

Are we going to need to do anything to not fall foul of distance selling regulations? Anything else we should think about?

Not sure about distance selling, I'm afraid, and as it's you, I'm sure you've got this covered, but the first thing that came to mind is that money made from selling things can't be counted like a donation, and some of it/all of it might be taxable income. This may or may not be an issue depending on whether the charity has a trading company set up? Best of luck. (if you ask anything else and I don't reply, PM me. My internet is off for a few weeks, so I'm not around much)

Thanks, we're a charity and a limited company so you're right about the taxable income thing, and even though it's me (!) that's not something which had occurred to me, I'll raise it with the company secretary who's into that kind of thing ...
