Still have I-94W from USA holiday

I travelled to Canada and the US this summer. As I entered America in a car, I was given a I-94W form and told it would be retained at the airport on departure. When I flew from America back to blighty no one in the US airport took the form.
I was told if it wasn't returned in America I would have a hard time visiting again in the future as I technically haven't declared I left. But looking at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/752/~/i-still-have-my-i-94 indicates to me that I don't need to post it anywhere and it'll sort itself out.
Anyone else been in this situation? Should I spend money returning it or be confident that as I flew commercially it'll sort itself out? I don't have my flight boarding pass so I presume I'd need to send a bank statement which I'm not too happy about.

If you departed by a commercial air or sea carrier (airlines or cruise ships), your departure from the U.S. can be independently verified, and it is not necessary to take any further action, although holding on to your outbound (from the U.S.) boarding pass - if you still have it - can help facilitate your reentry next time you come back to the United States.

how much money are we talking about to return it?
As that will influence the advice..The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
I-94W forms haven't been required for air passengers for some time - apart from the time we arrived at JFK with the CBP computer down and everybody in the arrivals hall scrambling for the forms (and pens)
As you know, for land crossings it's different.
On the face of it, you needn't be worried given what you have found out though I understand your concern. You could take a look at this website - https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html;jsessionid=HvW0JGKTTcvl0tVyqG94zrDpwhf2JyGDLNgw0hprT9WTxRGvwZ2X!-708832494 -
your journey may or may not be recorded. I think it's worth a look.0 -
Thanks for that link! My departure is recorded on there so I think I'm ok. Whew!0
