  • Why are you even doing this if you cancelled your membership? It defies reason, would you go shop lifting if you thought you could get away with it?

Bit odd to cancel the membership and then try again- why would you risk the shame of being turned away because you "hadn't paid"? and had cancelled- you'd look a bit like you had no common sense...

Easy way to get the answer is to reverse the question; the gym has stopped taking money from you and your asking if it's OK to keep using the gym even though they've stopped taking money.
If you'd asked the gym to stop taking money from you and they didn't, but still refused you access to the gym, would you be so laid back about chasing them to resolve it?
  • HA HA HA!!! You cancelled your Membership because it was too expensive. Why did you go back???

Come on now it is quite obvious you went back to try your luck. You have clocked that your Membership card or whatever you use to gain access has not been deactivated.

I thought you couldn't afford it so why are you asking if you should start paying again?

You know what you're doing is wrong but appear to be seeking approval. Therefore my advice is keep going until you get caught and possibly arrested.
  • According to the news today most crimes are no longer considered crimes by the police so what the hell go for it, but maybe first check whether fraud is on the 'no-longer-bothered' list of former offences.

It's not theft. It's probably fraud (although a very low level) but the guiding principle for me is would you act the same way if the roles were reversed (i.e. the gym was taking money but denying you access)?

By the way, I hope all those chastising the questioner have never used a voucher/discount coupon that wasn't intended for them!
  • I am shocked that you are even asking this, how dishonest are you? You have cancelled your membership and are still using the gym. I hope the gym comes after you for the money it is owed. It is people like you that that contribute to the increased cost for everyone else as companies lose money they pass it on to everyone else.

The trouble with theft is, it's a crime. It's not just that you could be taken to court.., it's the knock on effect.
    A fine?
    The embarrassment?
Would it affect a job application?
Did you want to take a holiday in the U.S.? (You won't get a visa.)
At the end of the day it's your decision.
  • I think you will end up having to pay up eventually, so yes, it's best to stop using it.

As for the moral/ethical side of it, I would not bother myself too much with the assumed, societal 'morality'. It's mostly just hipocrisy with a big fat layer of jealousy on top. If you can cheat a business that constantly rips off its customers out of some money and have some exercise - go for it. Sadly, they probably will wisen up and it's going to be a bit of a problem for you.
  • You know the answer so do the right thing. If we all started to use your twisted moral code then the civilized society that we all live in wouldn't last long. What your doing is taking without paying..........feef.

Get away with it for as long as you can. In my opinion.
