Building society merging/ credit check?

Hi

Nationwide is taking on a few small building societies. One of them is mine. I have an old fashined savings account with a passbook which I use for my wages to be paid into. Ive had it forever and its the only account I have. Im sorry to say that I have serious debts and no longer have my current accounts I had at a high st bank. Im really worried that they will credit check me as they are inheriting me in a way. I want to carry on with this passbook. It offers no credit or perks at all its just essential for my wages. Does anyone know if they will do this? Check every customer? Even basic passbook holders.

Thanks in advance

  • While I cannot say they wont with pinpoint accuracy, merging accounts from one provider to another does not normally require checking of credit files, most of the time accounts including overdrafts and facilities are ported over with no problems.

also being effectively a savings account, credit checking wont take place, so don't worry too much, free and clear as they say!

You only need be concerned if you have debt with Nationwide... once the societies are formally merged your money will be deposited with them.
