Currys hotpoint fridge freezer delivery fail

Me and my partner purchased a hotpoint fridge freezer two weeks ago on the currys website and it was due to be delivered tomorrow as that was the earliest date they had. The manufacturer rang up today and left me an answer phone message informing us that they will not be delivering it tomorrow due to a shortfall of stock and it will be another two weeks!!!

I'm extremely angry as I've booked the day off work at my own expense and We sold our old fridge freezer yesterday! Surely they should have known earlier than the day before they were due to deliver??!

Just looking at what our rights are before I phone up the manufacture and currys and give them both barrels :D

Read about your rights in MSE's article on the subject.

Well your rights might be with the retailer but I doubt it is their fault. I bought a Hotpoint fridge freezer recently and having placed the order via a retailer online, and chose a delivery date. The confirmation of delivery came in from the manufacturer who phoned me to confirm delivery the day before.

I assume Currys does not hold the stock but calls it down from the manufacturer, by passing them the order. If the manufacturer has a sudden rush from several outlets and cannot fulfill the order, there is little the retailer can do about it.

The alternative would be for all the retailers to carry large stocks and I suppose it is more cost effective this way. Until this sort of thing happens.
  • If the retailer choose to operate in this fashion then they also have to accept the blame when their business model goes wrong.

If it's a Hotpoint appliance, it may be for the best! They aren't known for their build quality (I speak from experience).

I agree completely!!!! our Hotpoint washing machine is less than 3 years old and bearings have gone - lots of kids white polo shirts for school completely ruined (less than 7 weeks old) £12 per shirt. I've just e-mailed Hotpoint but think there repair will be expensive - think we need a new washing machine & new school tops!!! Not impressed!!!
