Paying with c card or d card

Hi all I'm wanting to purchase an expensive item online and thought I would use the credit card but there's quite a charge so if I pay by debit card (visa) would I get the same insurance that I would if I paid with my credit card? Many thanks

  • Probably not, you'd would have to check with your debit card provider.
  • You don't really give sufficient information for anybody to give an accurate reply.
How much is he transaction for? What is the transaction purpose?

It's unlikely that you'd get any insurance as such, but there are different protections for card purchases that it will be worth familiarising yourself with if you want to decide which card to use.

Section 75 protection covers credit card purchases specifically and is explained in this MSE guide

Chargeback isn't enshrined in UK law but covers both credit and debit cards, see this MSE guide for further details.

As others have said more information is needed to give an informed answer but as an idea which may be useful...

Can you pay the retailer a 'deposit' of £100 by CC and the balance on your debit card? Best of both worlds with S75 protection and no fees for the balance paid by debit card.
