Tax Credits - Final Decision

Hi all, my partner left me in January and I immediately informed Tax Credits and they set up a new claim in my name. I received a end of year pack for each claim and duly returned them. It seems ex did not return his, so they have made a final decision - they want £65.
I am wondering whether I should offer to pay half of the amount, as it was a joint claim or will I have to pay all of it? I do not know if they have sent the same letter to ex and he says he hasn't received anything (they do know his address).
I suppose what I really need to know is am I liable for the full amount?
Thanks in advance.

I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

Thanks, that is good info.blondebubbles wrote: »If a joint claim you are only required to pay half.

It seems I will only be liable for half, even if ex does not agree to pay anything. They will send him a revised bill once I have paid my half.

I phoned TC (on hold for an age) and they agreed I only had to pay half, which was £34. They said ex had not returned his form but they had taken his wages info from HMRC records, so the figure was correct and not estimated. They sent me an email stating I have made my share of the payment which I have printed off and filed (learnt my lesson from previous experiences!).
Thanks for the advice and I'm glad it is now sorted.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0
