Dentist costs (and insurance)

Hi,
Just a quick question. I recently had to visit a private dentist as on the NHS it was going to take 6 weeks to see me (I broke some of my tooth). I knew this was going to cost me more than NSH but willing to pay. The dentist was very good (I am a very nervous - not been in 16 years!!!). He said I needed some more work done. I booked in for a checkup/examination and he found that i needed 6 fillings (and very surprised that after 16 years that is all I needed). Anyway he said it would be about £100 each total £600. That is something i can not simply afford even on the NSH it would be around £300. I looked at Dental Insurance and spotted that I can't claim for the first 6 months. Can I simply join up and then visit another dentist in 6 months time and have the work done then (even an NHS one). I know this sound very wrong but I really can't afford £300+
Any help would be very much appreciated.

If you join simplyhealth cashplan (not a recommendation) they have no waiting time - though it's not intended for private treatment costs, and the max you can claim in a year will be less than £600.
But you have been mislead over nhs charges. If you just need fillings the cost will be £50.50 in total.0 -
NHS wouldnt be £300, its a band 2 treatment from what you say so would be £50.500
-
Actually different charges apply in different parts of the UK. Only England and Wales have bands of charges and Wales is cheaper.
Scotland and Northern Ireland still charge per item with a much higher maximum charge .0 -
Yes that wouldn't charge you £50 per filling on Nhs it would be for all 6 as they would be on the same course of treatment.0

Maximum charge for a course of treatment in Scotland and NI is £384 however the most you will pay for each filling is around £30 unless you need root fillings or other treatment. X rays etc cost extra.
England and Wales the maximum charge for a course of treatment with just fillings is £40 to £50 ish depending on the country.
If you are on a low income you can pick up a hc1 form from dentists/gps/opticians etc and fill it in to see if you can get help with dental costs.0
