Closing Barclays Bank Account

Can anyone just give me a quick bit of advice...
I've printed off the account closure instruction form, do I need to put a covering note in with it or can I just pop the debit card and form in?
I've got a balance I want to transfer as soon as possible (long story, they keep blocking my card atm and said I need to go to the branch but with my work schedule I just don't have time, so I'm just going to move my money in to my natwest current account instead) so I obviously don't want to delay the process.
Live chat is useless!!
Thanks a lot!

Why not use the current account switching service and make some money from closing the Barclays account? Coop, M&S, FD, Halifax are all paying people to switch to them.
But to transfer your balance, you don't need to wait for anything, assuming you have internet access. Just transfer the money today.0 -
I don't have access to my online banking, it's ridiculous hence why I'm closing it, I've asked several time for access. Re switching I've already got another account set up so don't really want a third.0

You currently have two accounts by the sounds of things.aroomofonesown wrote: »I don't have access to my online banking, it's ridiculous hence why I'm closing it, I've asked several time for access. Re switching I've already got another account set up so don't really want a third.
By switching you would still have two accounts. You would also have an extra £100 in your pocket

If you really don't want to open another account, you could contact the bank that you do want to keep and ask them to transfer the Barclays account.
This would close the account and transfer the balance in about a week to your account. They may also give a facility for switching such as a temporary interest free overdraft. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Well I gotta say I wish I had switched (already sent the form off) because it's driving me mad not knowing how long barclays are going to take to transfer the balance to my other account.
Has anyone done this before - is there a typical time? They say within 5 days on the website but live chat person says 5-7 working days after they receive the form.0
