Not for the first time no doubt but arrrgghhh, bl***y cold calling

Sorry, I need to rant to make myself feel better. I am SICK SICK SICK of silent calls to my landline, and I am even more SICK of mostly recorded calls to my mobile about PPI reclaiming, kitchen scrappage schemes, home insulation schemes, various gas and other utility companies wanting me to swap to them. I don't answer calls to my mobile if I don't recognise the number and google it so I'm wise to many of them, but if you don't answer, they keep phoning back. I had one number which I found out was Scottish Power call me at different times of the day every day for 10 days. Eventually I did answer it and let the caller have it with both barrels. British Gas called me recently too - was it ok to talk? Err no, I'm at WORK actually so b**ger off. This week I answered a call, ostensibly from a mobile phone number who asked for Mr W*** I told her she would have a hard time since Mr W (my father) has been dead for 10 years. There were some strangled noises from the caller who then cut the call off. Hopefully I won't be getting any more calls from her any time soon! It really gets my goat that people ASSUME that as a female, I cannot possibly be the account holder because we all know that it is the man of the house who deals with the bills, the mortgage, the car, etc. Well do you know what, I own my car (bought it all on my own too), I own my house (bought that all on my own as well), I pay the bills, I decide who I'm having as my utilities suppliers, I manage my money perfectly well, my house is so insulated it would show as black on a thermal image and I've got far more interesting things to do than keep getting up to answer your silent calls, or empty my ansaphone log every day.

Rant over, thanks and tea and biscuits to those who made it to the end :T

Oh, and by the way, my landline is registered with TPS. Fat lot of good that does.

I totally agree, and think that the government should be working to rid us of this continual harassment.

Signing up with the TPS is almost useless; I doubt that they have fined any companies who step out of line.

I understand how annoying it is. I was wondering whether fatpiggy is ex directory?

I'm signed up with TPS and I'm also ex directory. I don't get unwanted (silent or otherwise) calls to my landline.;)

I've also set my phone so that I will not receive 'withheld number' calls, so the caller has to reveal their number before it's put through to me.;)

If fatpiggy has all of the above measures in place, I don't have any other suggestions for how you can stop them I'm afraid.

Regarding my mobile phone, I've only ever had a couple of spam text messages. I don't reply, I just delete them.

I have found a way to block unwanted phone calls http://cprcallblocker.com/
The doorstep nuisances are something else. I have a the blue sign from here clearly displayed on my front door http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/no-more-junk but still get people knocking. In the last week I have had a two people knock one from the local gazette asking me to agree to having their paper delivered, they stood there 10 minutes in a confrontational manner telling me her boss had told her she was allowed to overide and ignore such signs because she was from the local Gazette.
The other from a charity asking me to donate regular payments, she also argued she did not have to take notice of such signs(I already donate to charity).
Why cant these doorstep pests respect homeowners wishes
  • Completely agree with TPS now being an utter waste of space.
We get at least one nuisence call every single day. Checked on the TPS website and yes, our number is still registered.
They're not foreign calls and we haven't requested the calls.. so the conclusion must be that the TPS is pointless.

I disagree that TPS is a waste of time.

It's true that there are certain types of call it won't stop but that does not mean that it is not stopping many other callers from annoying you.

I find that the 'unstoppable' callers - i.e. those calling from overseas - tend to call several times over a period of around a fortnight and then leave you alone for many weeks.

So whereas before TPS I was getting a steady stream of calls from various parties with bursts of activity from time to time, now I get no calls for weeks on end, then about 4-5 over the course of a couple of weeks.

I think all mine are coming from just a couple of rogue outfits. The most easily recognised being those coming from the same couple of people with Indian accents who always start of by asking if they are talking to you, and know your name.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • If they ask for me by name, I say put it in writing. If its just "the occupant" goodbye. I don't know anyone who buys from a cold call.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I had my first cold call in ages yesterday, was beginning to feel left out.:D
Am expecting a flood of them now they know the number is live.
Yesterday's was ppi claims thing. Would they accept that I have no PPI to claim? No

I even lied through my teeth and told them I bought my house for cash. Still this woman kept yammering on.
Am sooo tempted next time to just give random details and make them think they will be rich with all the massive loans I have taken out.

Oh and I want a Microsoft computer faulty call. I got it all planned out and hope to keep them on for at least a half hour.:rotfl:
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥

Gets a bit tedious after 15 mins... Mind you I will be returning my android tablet as it doesn't have a Ctrl or 'Flag' key (not sure why John, Carl, Tracy, and Terry kept asking if I had windows - do they think I live in a bunker or a tent or something?).
