Spelling error on flight ticket...

Hi everyone,
I booked my flight and hotel a few weeks ago over the phone through Expedia - flight is with Thomas Cook.
Yesterday I went online to add baggage and noticed that they had misspelt my partners surname - they had put a 'T' instead of a 'D'. (I was a bit late noticing, I know)
I called them and they tried to charge me £110 to change it, I refused so they are listening to the phone call in which I made the booking to see what was said.
Do you think I'll have to pay this?
I feel like it's very unfair - I obviously know how to spell his name so I feel it's a problem on their part! They are also an Indian call centre so the language barrier made the calls difficult.

Normally typos are corrected free of charge as its not changing the person travelling etc but correcting an error.
Which company were you calling to make the change? Obvious thing would be to try the other one.0 -
I tried Thomas Cook first and they said as I had booked through Expedia I had to make changes through them, Expedia tried sending me to Thomas Cook but in the end said they would change it for a fee.
I may have to try Thomas Cook again0 -
Let them listen to the call, they will realise the error is on there side and they will need to cover the costs.Lea0

Quick update - they have said to get in touch with Thomas Cook and pay for a name change, then send the receipt to Expedia and they will refund it - does anyone else think this sounds strange? I'm wary about doing this.0

That's no problem
1. if you can afford it
but, more importantly
2. if it's in writing and you have proof of this, if this was given verbally I maybe wouldn't trust them and ask for the deal to be put in writing

I'm just confused because Thomas Cook told me that as I booked through Edxpedia, they are the ones who have to sort it out - guess I'll find out tonight when I phone.0

Under normal circumstances it would be the agent, rather than the airline, who deal with name changes. So it does sound as if you have been 'fobbed off'. Since this is Friday, I suggest that make that call at lunchtime: otherwise you may get nowhere this evening and then face a weekend of worry before being able to do anything.0 -

It's not a name change, it's a correction of a spelling mistake, and there is nothing to guarantee Expedia will honour the refund.
Is it down to the terminology being used? Do they understand it is a spelling error that needs amending, not a name change?2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Definitely would be wary. Happened to me last year (I think it was with Easyjet) and they changed the name on the phone no problem, no fees, no issues.0

The error is Expedias not Thomas cook as Expedia have booked the TC flights not the other way round as TC don't use Expedia. So basically TC airlines are telling Expedia its ** for a name change which at a guess is £50, so Expedia are trying to pass the buck on to you. I would tell Expedia its their problem you haven't got £50 and tell them to deal with it and see what they say to that. Your booking is with Expedia so even if you had made the mistake they would normally take payment then pay TC to rectify it, stand your ground.0
