Hi Staciiee
It's important for you to know that Moorcroft are not bailiffs - just plain old debt collectors. This means that they can make visits within reason, but they can't take your possessions.
It's best that you deal with them in writing only from now on. That way you will feel less pressured into making payment offers that you may not be able to afford.
It's relatively unusual for them to make doorstep visits like this one - I wouldn't expect them to keep calling repeatedly. If they do call again, please feel free to ignore them or simply state that you will deal with them in writing and leave it at that.
Regards
Dennis

Moorcroft turned up at my door about 2 years ago. I wasnt in and was at work, unfortunatley for me my mum was at home and answered the door and of course panicked. Luckily he was really nice and said please close the door and lock it and i will put the card through the door, in which he did. When i got home i looked at the card and it stated i needed to pay and set a payment plan up, he was really nice and i offered £20 a week which he accepted however he did say that they had to accept what ever i offered and whatever i could afford. Luckily i managed to get this paid of which i think was about £535.
Just offer them a small amount even if it is just a token of £1 a week or £5 per month and ask them to review it in a few months, least if you are paying something you are showing willingness to pay towards the debt , if you dont pay it it will onyl get worse and charges, fees etc will be added, trust me i know, its better to just get it paid :-) Good luck0 -
This applies to ALL doorstep collectors, they are just Debt collectors, and have no powers at all, you don't have to answer the door, you don't have to speak to them, you CAN tell them to go away, certainly don't give them any money !!.
They are self employed collectors who get paid mostly on results, as advised previously, write to them(Moorcroft)and tell them that all future contact be made in writing only.
If they persistently call at your home, you can report them to the police for trespass, or record them on a mobile phone, they will soon go, and wont be back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Looks like you need to get a strategy in place for the next visit. Doing this will take the worry away.
Write to Moorcroft stating that you require all communication to be strictly in writing.
Then write another letter to the door stop collector. State in this letter:
That Moorcroft have been required to keep all communication to writing only.
That his presence on the door step is therefore in contravention of FCA guidance.
That you require him to leave your property without delay or discussion.
That you are prepared to call the police for his trespass if he does not comply.
Watch him read it and leave. If he doesn't leave call the police (or pretend to). Or simply shut the door on him and noisily lock it.
Print out 10 of those and leave them in a stack by the front door.
If it is possible someone else from the household will answer the door tell them the procedure.BSC No 248
