A few years ago HMRC asked for proof of my (S/E) work. I delayed ( mother was dying ) and missed deadline.
I appealed, accepted, new date for work details set. I sent in all required docs. ( bank, adverts, receipts, work log etc etc )
some time later I received letter from them ( enclosing all docs ) accepting my appeal - everything ok...
Meanwhile some other part of HMRC seems to have missed the appeal etc and declared ALL of the year in question not valid and ALL of my working and family ( i am single parent - 3 kids ) tax credits must be repaid!!!
despite me sending them / referring them to the letter which states they accepted my appeal and proof they are still chasing me for the money - and now passed onto Sigma red - !!
I quite "obviously " don't owe them the money!!
How can I get them to wake up!!??

Are you sure that they weren't investigating other aspects of your claim. If they decided that you weren't self-employed (in qualifying remunerative work) that would stop WTC and there would be an overpayment of previously paid WTC, but you would still be entitled to CTC.
The only way a whole award can be overpaid (other than due to income) is if they think you were living someone as part of a couple.
Have you spoken with the debt collection agency and explained that you believe this has been resolved?
