Hi everyone, I’d really like your opinions on this please. OH has again accused me of being selfish. I know I can be sometimes because of my ASD but this time I really feel that he’s the selfish one. I want to go on a sightseeing holiday in Scotland. I enjoy visiting castles and historic buildings and I want to go to Stonehaven to visit Dunnottar Castle and 21 other heritage sites and museums in a 20 mile radius. OH isn’t interested in historic buildings and museums but he does visit them with me occasionally. However he said that spending a week doing this would not be a holiday for him and he’d be totally bored. It wouldn’t be worth just going for the day since it’s over 300 miles and the drive is over 5 hours! He won’t agree to me going alone either so that means I won’t ever get to visit these places unless I outlive him :( He says it will cost as much as a holiday abroad but we’ve been abroad 3 times and he just wants to sit by the pool all day then go for a sleep in the afternoon, which totally bores me  I really don’t think I’m the one being selfish here :(

Thoughts off the top of my head:

    1) There's a lot of difference between a day and a week.
    2) You're on here for goodness sake, why on earth would it cost as much as a holiday abroad? Seek ( and ask) and ye shall find.
    3) Holidays ( and indeed relationships/ marriages) should be about seeking out something that works for both parties, and not clipping each other's wings. I don't really get having to seek permission from the other one to do something you really want.
    4) The best thing in a relationship is where you both want the very best for each other more than for yourself. If you can both sign up to that, it's pretty much guaranteed to work out.
    5) What worked for us as a family of three on holiday before my daughter left home was this: you might not be getting to do exactly what you want right this minute, but at some point during this day, all of us are going to get to do something that we want. If our three year old daughter got this, it's surely not too big a stretch for two consenting adults?

Sorry if this comes across as a bit brusque, but it's been a tough week with an above average tally of morons to deal with. Hth x
    Hope is not a strategy.
