I found this explanation of a trigger to be helpful too:Originally Posted by Bajjo
The saving caused by trigger is usually much greater than the 10%.
A trigger is an item which is not picked up on the APG which causes the APG to miss multi-buy prices.
For example you buy 3 different shampoos at 3 for £10. One is a trigger item and is not picked up by the APG because it's not yet in their system.
The APG thinks you paid full price for the other two shampoos (for example, £7), not the multibuy price of £3.33 (in the case of 3 for £10).
Therefore the full price is compared to other supermarkets, not the price you paid. This means you can achieve favourable APG results.

That's why I said what I did earlier.......invisible triggers, visible triggers, triggers that think they're something else triggers, unexplainable triggers ( ambrosia pots :rotfl:) we should just call them magic items0 -
:hello:I'm back later than usual (as dealing with family:D). I have a number of 'query items' that arise each week from my first M store but I've now already resolved most of them and updated this on M list accordingly. The pesky frozen pork steaks have disappeared again:( - I think they did this a long time ago when my list wasn't as 'completist' as it is now or else during a period when I was forgetting to add them on. I can't tell if the absence from my stores is a nationwide one, or just local to me, so they may compare to £2.00 or they may go N/A. Also I have no Tiger Baguette again! I have the White Baguettes, however, remaining at 50p in M. (And there I was, looking for SELs on bakery items that are OOS instore at that time of night:rotfl:.)
The following are missing out on the M list:
Foster's Radler Cloudy Lemon (12x300ml)£8.00 £6.00
Foster's Radler Ginger & Lime (4x300ml)£4.00 £2.50
However, they are very slightly not good enough on price per unit, as only 300ml. I also do not expect them to compare on the APG and consider them to be quite risky. They may surprise me, but, again, not considered good enough price per 100ml (even accounting for a 10% that I feel won't come off). I've added some Carling Citrus Zest to the list though, only available in M.0 -

Meanwhile, Gramps is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice, "Easy, William, we won't be long . . . easy, boy."
Another outburst, and she hears the granddad calmly say, "It's okay, William, just a couple more minutes and we'll be out of here. Hang in there, boy."
At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the trolley, and Gramps says again in a controlled voice, "William, William, relax buddy, don't get upset. We'll be home in five minutes; stay cool, William."
Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car.
She said to the elderly gentleman, "It's none of my business, but you
were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay. William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa."

That's not the be all and end all of triggers though. It assumes that a trigger is always missing from the APG and that's not the case
We've been through this before. And the original explanation now given, that a trigger is missing from the APG is only one definition of a 'trigger'.
Just like a "filler" - that may be an item bought only in order to reach the minimum qualifying number of items, whether or not it compares to the competitor on the intended 'winning' comparison. Or it may be an item bought beyond that, that is (I hope) good price in the place being bought in but returns an N/A for the intended competitor.
I don't intend to revisit it all.
We also have "glitches" which, we hope, are errors in our favour. But I also occasionally use the word "glitch" in a very different sense - when I say something "glitched against me" - in other words returned much more expensive price elsewhere, perhaps because it didn't pick up the competitor's mbuy. Almost always involving comparisons attempted vs M.0 -
Maybe some PP/BM items here. Check a.com on the day of your shop and then hope for the best.
