I see GOV.UK have released a new updated website for vehicle tax renewing (https://www.gov.uk/tax-disc) and the new tax expiry search now includes when the MOT expires (https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax) which is handy when looking at second hand cars.

Anyway, my tax expires at the end of September, so I logged on using my car reg and V5C doc reference (as V11 reminder not arrived yet). After logging on, I notice there is no option to set up a direct debit to pay the tax monthly, just the usual 6 month or 12 month upfront options.

Will we have to wait until the 1st October if we want to renew tax using the new monthly direct debit scheme?

who knows, I don't think they've released any details down at this level. I'd like to think they'll have the DD option running by mid-month, I can't think too many people renew their tax more than 2 weeks early. I did mine at 11.45 Sunday night, for September.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Well I wasn't actually going to renew it tonight, I was just wanting to go through the motions to see what it entails. :)

Unfortunately I am in the same boat and the direct debit option only starts for people needing to tax their car from 1st of November so we will have to pay for at least 6 months this time.

Ah I see. Looks like I'll have to cough up £99 for 6 months then. :(
