Tax Credits/CB @17 - quick question

Thanks in advance for any help.
Tax Credits have my eldest daughter (she was 17 in April) down as a Qualifying Young Person. She's in 6th year studying Advanced Highers.
I received Tax Credits and Child Benefit today.
Tax Credits as normal - CB for one child (my youngest daughter) only.
Why the discrepancy if both systems are administered by HMRC?

I thought they tell each other? Or you could ask them to.
Also do you have to tell them at 17? I thought it was just 16 and 18.0 -
I was in a similar position this year.
My youngest Son was 17 last October. He is about to commence the second year of a Level 3 qualification at College.
My tax credits have continued as normal.
However, I received a letter from Child Benefit at the end of July, advising me that Child Benefit would stop at the beginning of September.
I returned the form, stating that my Son would, in fact, be continuing in full time non advanced education until July 2015 (as I had previously advised them).
Approximately two weeks later, I received a letter confirming that the Child Benefit would continue.
This is the first time this has happened. With my other two children, the Child Benefit continued, without interruption, until the end of the second year of Sixth Form/College.
Once the child in question left full time non advanced education, I informed the Child Benefit centre and Child Benefit continued until the first week in September.

I wonder if this has to do with kids now required to stay on at school college for the extra year ?Stuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland

I did think that, myself.
Obviously, my Son has now stayed on for the required year. However, as it is a two-year course, he has one more year to go.
From September 2015, children will be required to stay on in education/training/apprenticeship for a further two years, rather than the current one year. So, no doubt it will all change again then. Cue confusion all round!0 -
Its a strange one in that ChB and CTC do share info on children remaining in education but not all of the time. This could be as a result of TC not having the ChB number for the claimant and therfore are unable to pass the details over to ChB for the claim to remain open for the child remaining in educationNo One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

I know for sure that ChB send education details accross to CTC but not sure if the customer has to request it be done or not.No One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

I dont know for sure no. I know they normally advise claimants to contact ChB to make any change. The only thing I am confident on is ChB do send the details over to TC but not sure if its at the reqest of the claimant. No One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0
