b&bingley telephoned asking for documents relating to PPI claim

B&B have telephoned me today and asked for me to send documents of the accident, sickness and redundancy packages which I had when they forced me to buy their PPI when I took a mortgage out with them, over 20 years ago. I have had 3 different jobs since i took the mortgage and PPI out with them and I dont have any documents and 2 of the companies no longer exist.
Are they supposed to telephone me and put me on the spot?
If I dont have these documents regarding the accident, sickness and redundancy , will they be able to say that my claim is void?
Thank you

The alternative (slower) method is to write to you.

If they don't have records and you don't, then there can be no "claim".
Banks keep records for six years, your "complaint" is from two decades ago.

They can contact you by any means acceptable.

Evidence is important. If you allege something then you should be able to prove it upon request. Without proof they can make a decision that there is no evidence to support your opinion. With MPPI, it rarely matters if there are employer benefits anyway as most MPPi pays out in addition to employer benefits. The FOS has also been rejecting complaints where people have had 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay with MPPI.

Thanks, I did send them a copy of The ppi contract , which I still had. I dont have any documents from my previous employers and both companies ceased trading a long time ago

Unfortunately, a PPI contract is not even proof that you actually paid any PPI. For example, you could have cancelled this insurance in the cooling off period and paid nothing.

If the Bank are requesting details of other insurance you had at the time, it means they have found no evidence that you were "forced" to take PPI and they are looking for other evidence that you may have been mis-sold. If you can't provide such evidence, your complaint is unlikely to succeed.

ok . thanks. I also sent a copy of a ppi letter, stating that the premiums were being raised, this was 5 years after I tookthe mortgage and ppi, out

I doubt you needed any proof that you had a PPI policy. As I said, it sounds as if the Bank have found no evidence to support your assertion that you were "forced" to take the insurance and now want you to provide evidence that you did not need the insurance.

Nothing wrong with monthly mortgage PPI. I really doubt they 'forced' you take it.

He said nothing wrong with monthly mortgage PPI, a very different proposition to loan and credit card PPI.

The PPI issue is not actually about PPI as such. It was the sale of PPI. However, it has resulted in all but two types of PPI being withdrawn. The only two left are standalone PPI (as a form of budget income protection) and mortgage PPI. Both of these have low success rates on complaints.
