Clamping

I'm at a training course this week at the Towers Business Park, Didsbury, Manchester. The opening slide of the course talked about amenities, parking etc. Parking is at a premium, and so parking restrictions are rigorously enforced.

What astounded me was that the slide said cars parked in contravention would be clamped! I made it clear to the course instructor that clamping of vehicles is illegal on private land (since POFA 2012), and so if such an activity did occur then they would be breaking the law. :)

(PS - As I'm staying locally I'm parked at my hotel and just walk there, so the above doesn't actually affect me).

Unreal that they don't know about legislation from almost 2 years ago
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

Not much he could really say - he was just the course presenter, not the guy who makes (or enforces) the rules.

I hope he'll feed the info back though.

Plenty of signs in Gloucester still threatening clamping, including the Peel Centre car park. Despite several emails to them, they have yet to respond...
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
  • I heard on the radio from a chief police inspector chap that even advertising that wheel clamping is in force is also breaking the law.

Is it? Now that is interesting if the case! It certainly would be fraudulent advertising!

Not sure he's right about that.

I asked more about this and was told they don't actually employ clamping. (Indeed there aren't even any parking restriction signs on the site. Whether this will change I don't know - the site is undergoing major refurbishment at the moment).
  • I've run lot's of training courses, he'll have a script about "housekeeping" - Fire Alarms, bogs, parking etc. He was just hoping to "skip" through the parking stuff before getting onto the meat of the course.

Good on ya' for pulling him up.

    I doubt that very much.
