Newbie: 30 hour Element

Hello, I'm a newbie to this forum and wondering if anyone can help me on the 30 hour element ruling.

Currently I'm working full time 37.5 a week, and my partner works full time 44 hours a week. Our first child is due 26th Feb 2015 and I'm planning on taking 12 months off, and returning back to work.

I had planned to return to work part time, and was looking at 22.5 hours a week, but a colleague has suggested I'd be better off if I returned 30 hours as I'd get more money.

My partners salary is £22k before deductions and if I came back part time mine would be approximately £9,984.00 before deductions.

Can anyone shed any light onto whether we'd be able to apply for the 30 hour element or if our combined salaries would make us exempt?

Many thanks
