Postage of heavy expensive items

Hi, I am due to sell a PS3 and an Apple TV soon, as I am fairly new to selling I have only posted out much lighter items by Royal Mail which has been fine. Would anyone experienced in selling such items please advise me as to the best way to send them, it would only be to the UK and I have free P&P on the listing.

Thanks for any help and advice.

You are going to need tracking and insurance, so if using Royal Mail would only really be able to use special delivery. A courier might be possible for the PS3 , but check the exclusions as couriers often exclude electrical items. I don't know what Apple TV is but if it is a TV then finding Any courier might be difficult as TVs are rarely covered.

  • I may just go with the Royal Mail, my local postmaster seems to be very good at finding me the best option, an Apple TV is a set top box for streaming live TV, its about 2/3 the size of a PS3 and about half the weight, thanks again :)

Not sure on weights but if they are both under 1kg then Royal Mail Special Delivery is your best option. They probably still are until 2kg too.

you are selling expensive electronic items, just in case you do not know - paypal now allows claims for up to 180days, make sure you are happy with possibly having to take items back and refund for up to 6 months.

You say you are new to selling, these are scammable items, have you read up on how ebay / paypal buyer protection, buyer requirments settings etc work ?

Keep any "proof of posting" for at least 180 days. For those items Id go for special delivery.
  • Great advice, thanks, I will read the above, I wasn't keen on selling these items anyway but wanted to clear them out, hope its worth my effort.
  • Have a read of the sticky on postage.

Just to add, if it is an Apple TV 2 they are sort after so don't let it go cheap or swap it for the latest Apple TV box.
  • It just says Apple TV on the box, its a 2008 1st generation, I've checked the completed listings and I've priced it accordingly, maybe that's why each morning I have messages from different people offering me money to buy it now.
  • Sell them on gumtree. cash on collection.
    "Love you Dave Brooker! x"

"i sent a letter headded sales of god act 1979"
  • If they don't sell I will, got some other heavier things too, postage is annoying me so may well go down this route for them.
