Vineweed Problem!
                    Hi There,
Basically our garden has 3 gardens that back onto it, these are not well maintained at all and as a result we get a load of vine weed that comes into our garden.
I have been round to my neighbours and sprayed it a few times with weedkiller but it has been unsuccessful.
Does anyone else have any other ideas that might help.
Thank you in advance.:j

            do you mean bind weed?
It takes time to get shot of bind weed as the roots are extensive (and break when you dig it but that's a different issue).
Which weedkiller?0 -
            Yep sorry bindweed......
It is a pain in the backside!
I have used roundup, I am worried about spraying it on my side as I don't want to damage any of my plants.

Wear long kingfisher gloves, put on wooly pair, dip in roundup and grip the weed, slide hand up weed.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Good idea, or spring for one of those dab on jobs, which OH has now done after a couple of spray drift incidents.
Used to paint it on with a brush also0 -
Try Rosate 36 its glyphosate based, cheaper than round up and as its a concentrate you can choose to make a stronger mix. Its worked on everything for me at home and on the allotment. Take a look at online suppliers and amazon/ebay for it.0

You do realise that any kind of glyphosate weedkiller takes around 2 or 3 weeks to show signs that it's working?
Some people have come here claiming that it 'doesn't work' when, in reality, they don't understand the timescale.
Getting rid of bindweed completely takes a long time and more persistence than most people can muster, but properly applied glyphosate will give some control and certainly knock it back for a while. My (commercial) neighbour's bindweed doesn't die, but it never ever reaches my fence.

On the recommendation of somebody on here, I've been sticking canes in the middle of new shoots and allowing them to grow up the cane. Then I unwrap it when it's a few feet long and stuff the whole lot into a jam jar of weedkiller, cover the top in foil, wrap the whole thing in a plastic bag (nosy cat!) and leave it for a few days. It really does the trick and I don't see it come back in the same area for ages, if at all. We too have neighbours with it all over their gardens so it's probably impossible to get rid of completely but this is definitely helping.0

            Wow, some great ideas here.
Thank you all for your time, I will definitely give them a go.
I look forward to one day winning the war on the bindweed!

I had a lot of it on my allotment but managed to almost get rid of it now or should I say its gone for time being, which is probably right. I just keep spraying it with Rosate36 strong mixture its glyphosate. I get results within a few days this time of year probably due to dilution rate. I spray it a couple of times when its growing. You can get roundup gel if its near plants I have used that too, it works but is not a cheap way to use glyphosate but worth it to make sure you only get bindweed. I also use it on mares tail another pain of a weed and works but usually I stamp on weed to remove some of the waxy leaves.0
