Have Amazon Prime - But Payment Delays Mean No Next Day Delivery for Me!

I do a lot of on-line shopping and so decided I might benefit being an Amazon Prime member. All went well at first, then I noticed that items with Prime deliveries seemed to be a tad more expensive than the ones without BUT what's really annoying me is when I order an item with free next day delivery, even though I have 2 cards registered my payment doesn't go through in time no matter which one I choose to pay with first. I then get an email and have to try the other card by which time my item has missed the post and I have to wait an extra day.
Amazon say it's the banks doing, the bank say it's Amazon, but the net result is that I've paid for a priority service and can't rely on getting it.
Just wondering whether it really IS me or my two separate banks, or is it some kind of ruse by Amazon to save money on fast deliveries.
Has anyone else experienced this please?

I have had Amazon prime for several years now, and I have never had problems like that. Recently goods ordered in Saturday have been delivered on Sunday.
On a couple of occasions (over the years and very infrequent) I have ordered goods which have been sent out, but then not delivered the next day, and Amazon gave me a short extension to the Prime membership.0
