I have approx £180 in £2 coins that I would like to deposit into my Halifax account, will they accept these if I bag them up? I don't want to struggle carrying these bags whilst pushing my wheelchair to the bank if they won't accept them as I know some banks don't like accepting coins.

Many thanks.

  • When my missus used to bank with them, she used to save coins In a bottle and cash them in once a year. Our local branch used to tell us, 5 bags a day, bank policy.

on the other hand, branch in another town told us we could deposit as many as we liked.

Id say take a few bags down and just ask when you pay them in what the maximum is, saves inconvenience of dragging them all down and being turned away.

well done on the amount of them saved mind! All good for the purse :)
  • If I can get a lift down to the bank it won't be as bad as I could pop in to find out if they'll accept them all then. Just want to bank them this week as got a little break away to pay for next week, could do without making a couple of trips.

    Thanks for the hints.
  • Maybe ring the bank up and ask, could save a trip :)

I bank with the Halifax and they used to accept five bags per day. Mine were also £2 coins. For some reason last time they would only take two bags. In the end my nieces and nephews got a card with £2 coins and chocolate coins stuck to it for Christmas.
  • Might be a bit of a pain but if your bank is insistent on 5 bags only - you could go to a different bank in town and exchange the other few bags for cash. Then just deposit the cash and the remaining 5 bags with your own bank.
  • I'd just phone your branch and ask. Otherwise, just put £180 in your savings and use the coins for doing the shopping.
  • Hi I paid bags of coins into the Halifax last week and asked if they had a limit, I was told they used to set a limit of 5 but this is no longer the case so you can pay as in many as you like now :j
