Passport snooping Jobcentre

Hi brought my passport for a jsa interview
the other day as id. Thought they were going
to take a copy of the pic section like they
normally do, but this time the took copies
Of all pages w stamp on them. Can they
do this even if the stamps are from
back when i was not claiming.

All Government Departments do this - might be a Visa stamp saying no recourse to public funds :)
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Absolutely they can. If you have been out of the country for more than 3 months at a time in the past 2 years (assuming British Citizen), there could be an impact on your entitlement to benefit.
The passport won't show any period of absence in the EU but would potentially show other travel.
More importantly, as HBO has said, a copy of the passport will show that there is no restriction on recourse to public funds.
  • Certain pages also have hidden security features. Can't tell you what they are though :)

  • Thanks for the replies guys.

IT was a habitual residence interview.
Does people have to do these every time
    they make a rapid reclaim?

    PS yes UK citizen
  • Driving License is always best I think, the looking for reason not to pay out. You can be sanction from day one if you don't do things quite right.

Google the "Job Centre looks to get more people on sanctions". They aren't paid to help you there paid to find ways not to pay you if you fall out of line. One individual at Job Centre even admits she there to annoy claimants so they can be forced on sanctions for retaliating to her digs.

My response to here was please treat me with the respect you employer ( DWP ) says I am due. The system in some area is in disarray, not all staff are like this but sadly most are.

    No.

Being a UK citizen doesn't matter either.

If you are claiming you were resident in the UK - passport stamps or the lack of would be supporting documentation (or otherwise) of your claim surely ?

Not under the EU travel arrangements.

I have multiple passports, and whilst my English one doesn't have any stamps/visas in, both of the others do.

It's therefore potentially relevant, but not materially so.
