You don't have to use an instructors car for a driving test almost any car will do can you get a friend or family member to lend you a car and take you to the test.

Surely for the cost of 5 hours you could have a couple of extra hours tuition/ getting used to another instructor's car. That way you'll also have experience with different cars which really is a good thing to have. For a start, it'll save you have to buy the same model of car for yourself once you've passed ;)

A bit pedantic, but driving instructors don't do "car hire". It's not the business they're in and they're not insured for it.

What you're paying for when you take a test is the instructor's time: if he's reputable it will be at his usual rates. His insurance covers tuition, which is defined to include tests.

Bit? One of the most pedantic posts ever made on this forum. It was kinda obvious what was meant by 'driving test car hire' ! It would do my head in having an instructor as pedantic as this when unnecessary.

Care to enlighten us as to the cost to insure a learner driver for a couple of hours?
