Benefits plus work.

Hi

I'm new here and hoping for some advice. My background is that I am on income related ESA plus medium rate care DLA for a mental health problem. I also receive housing benefit plus council tax reduction.

I have not worked for the past 4 years due to health reasons, prior to this I worked full time in the NHS. I have an opportunity to gain a post in child care ( which I am qualified for ). The job is Mon- Fri 0830-1200. Pay has not been confirmed but would not be much higher than minimal wage.

I know with ESA there is "permitted work" but am unsure as to how to apply it to my situation. I am currently under the care of the community mental health team and I have a health professional that is willing to be my named support.

Really just looking for some advice on how (if succesfull) this employment would affect me financially etc.

Many thanks for any help.

I suffer from mental health problems too, my advise would be not too push yourself too soon, but it also helps with certain mental health conditions if you can work at least a few hours a week.

I'm not sure what the criteria are for 'Supported Permitted Work', but there is no limit on the time period you can do it i.e. not limited to 52 weeks. The limit of 16 hours and £101 per week do both still apply. £101 is supposed to equate to 16 hours at minimum wage. As blondbubbles says, the hours you state would be over the limit. Either asking to work 4 days per week or 3 hours per day, 5 days per week would address that issue.
    Good luck with the placement.
