overflow on hot water

Hi can anybody please advise?? just went into my loft and there is water coming out of the expansion pipe over the little tank ..we only have the water on which is on twice a day for 2 hours at a time ..when i put the heating two way valve to manual the water stopped when i put back to auto it was running again ..any feed back would be appreciated thanks.

    If the water is exceptional hot then it's expansion will send it up the open vent pipe back into the cold water tank. Has the thermostat on the hot water tank been turned up by error?
