The web address of the Gardening board has now been changed from https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/greenfingered-moneysaving to https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/gardening so that it is in line with the board's current name. Don't worry though, the old address will still redirect you here, but it's worth updating it in your saved links or browser favourites.

Go to a specialist garden machine retailer and ask advice. Watch out for the very cheap stuff as spares are often not available and the machine may have to be binned. Having said that it may well give years of service.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Not wishing to be critical, but you can't usually use the same tool for cutting hedges and sawing logs. You haven't said whether you want powered tools or manual tools or described the size of the hedge or the logs to be cut up. Without this sort of information it is difficult to offer any constructive advice or recommend particular tools and brands.0

Don't expect to make firewood from Leylandii either. It'll spit like hell, clog chimney with tar, and stink.....0

The firewood would be birch. I don't use a huge amount of firewood, just the occasional fire. But I'm not sure if it's worth getting a separate trimmer.
The Leylandii is about 10-feet tall.0
