improving credit file! even got refused for credit builder card ...any tips

I heard a good way to try and improve credit file is to get a credit builder card...I tried and even got refused for this :( I saw something about pre-paid debit cards....can anyone shed any light on this any tips on this and general improving credit file


to give you a idea where I am
*one paid simply be account- it was partially cleared
*up to date british gas accounts shown on there
*up to date barclaycard account-
*Defaulted barclays from an overdraft that iam paying through step change - even though pay on time every month- shows as defaulted- put just paid this off in full now:)
*lots of searches from car insurance
*noddle score 1/5 :(

any tips greatly appreciated

    The score means nothing, ensure its all accurate, are you on the electoral roll?

    The searches from car insurance are only seen by the company who did the search so wont affect it, its a soft search and usedto make sure the applicant is real.

    yes iam on the electoral roll but looking on my account the dates are wrong so something i can look at

    Although not the best or the cheapest method you could get a Cashplus Card and use the Credit Builder facility that they have?

    Also i would get copies of all your credit files from the CRA's to check all details are correct.

    What is wrong with your electoral role information ?

    It was about this time of year that the local electoral roles were gathered via a form sent to the head of household. This time the online method of electoral registration will take the majority of the workload for each individual voter to complete updated details.

    Perhaps simply just doing nothing for a while might help your cause.

    What is wrong with your electoral role information ?
    the date I moved here was november 2011 and it shows october 2012 on my credit file

    definatley do nothing - know what your saying - just because I can see the light now, i feel motivated to try and improve it as one day I would to own my house
