Mobility scooter insurance

I bought a new 4mph boot scooter yesterday and am thinking about insurance.

I am going to ring my insurance broker tomorrow and see if if it's covered under my home policy.

If it's not can anyone recomend someone?

Thanks in advance

Google scooter insurance there are several that offer specific insurance to cover accidental damage and theft etc.

Ive forgotten the name my FIL is with but they are a bit dearer than most. The cover does seem more comprehensive though.
It covers his scooter stored on a communal area and not in his own property where others wouldnt cover theft from that area.

Many - but not all - Home Insurance policies cover pavement scooters such as yours. Read the documents that came with your policy.

  • Do home insurance policies cover you damaging things or injuring people though? That could be a major financial liability and most only seem to cover damage or loss of the vehicle.

It tends to be excluded as Home Policies tend to exclude motorised vehicles due to the implications of the Road Traffic Act
  • Have you tried Blue Badge Mobility Insurance?
They were one of the cheapest when I was looking and really helpful on the phone.

Insurers can cover mobility scooters but they will usually have to be specified on the policy at an extra cost.

There will be conditions on the cover but the liability cover will usually be extended to cover the scooter if someone was injured.

If your broker can't do it maybe try a specialist company.
