When do you want to go, and by direct do you mean shortest duration flight, or least flight changes?
The only direct flight from the UK to Newfoundland is a seasonal Air Canada from Heathrow to St. Johns. It's around £900 including a connecting flight from Manchester airport.
From St Johns you would have to fly to Gander or take a bus (Around 5 hours and $60).
Cheaper routes are available, generally flying via Toronto, although depending on the day of travel, Easyjet from Edinburgh airport to Iceland, Iceland Air to Halifax and then Air Canada direct to Gander may work for you.0 -
As you can see there are no direct flights to Gander from any UK airport. That doesn't make for cheap flying but here is an option that runs until October this year and will certainly be back next year. Take a flight from Newcastle to Dublin and then take Westjet, a good Canadian airline, direct to St Johns. Their flights have been really successful and if you buy separate tickets you will save UK Airport Departure tax into the bargain. You will only be paying £13 for a European flight instead of £69 and the flight to St Johns is only 4 and a half hours. I assume you have friends in Gander as it is not hot on the tourist map, see if they can come and collect otherwise you lose the savings by having to buy another flight.0
