Credit in someone else's name

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone will know the answer to this or have had a similar experience.
My girlfriend's mum has credit out in her name that she was unaware of, they have defaulted and is now holding her back from getting a new car. My question is, how can we go about getting these removed from her credit file?
She has 2 credit cards in her name which she knew about, payments on these are ok but not great, a few missed here and there.
The 2 that are the issue are both store cards, one is defaulted and the other has about 6 missed payments. The annoying thing is these debts only come to £250!
My girlfriend was aware of the credit cards (stupidly she agreed many years ago) but she knew nothing about the store cards.
Thanks for any help or advice!
Ben

Prove that fraud was committed. Pursue the matter through the police etc.0

Are you saying your gf's mum has taken out credit in your gf's name without telling her (the store cards) after previously been given permission to open two credit cards in her name?
If so I can't see how she can get them removed without involving the police, but it would be messy as she gave permission to open cards in her name in the past.0
