Increase HSBC credit card limit

Does anyone know if you can increase your HSBC credit card limit via internet banking?

I don't know my telephone banking details, but have that pin device laying around somewhere. I just wanted to know if it's possible, as I don't want to turn the house upside down looking for the pin device if I can't.

I usually just use their mobile app.

Thanks!

  • Yes you can apply to increase it online or by phone or in branch. You can also phone up if you don't want to find the pin device.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Thanks. I found the pin device, logged in, but it said I needed to call them to apply to increase my credit limit from £500.

    I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow. :)
  • Hmm, that's odd. I've had no problems applying for an increase via Internet Banking. Might be different for different people? Or it might depend on what kind of account you have with them?

If I click on increase or decrease credit limit, it asks me to call them.

Might be because I originally applied for a 'student credit card', even though it shows as a standard credit card.
  • The reason for the difference is based on analysis of your personal accounts and records, some people will be offered virtually instant (online) approval for increases, others are asked to call.

Similar to advertised loan rates being 4.5% APR when many customers struggle to get 7%.

i have found HSBC to be very tight, or sometimes very generous, with credit limits.
but either way, i have never had them increase a limit. they seem to set it, and stick to it. and the only way to get a higher one is to close, wait a few months, and then reapply.
