Curtain pole for a bay window?

Hi,
We currently have blinds in our bay window which are a real pain - they don't run up/down easily like they should, and they don't block the sun very well at all, so we've bought some curtains (with eyelets) to replace them.
The problem is, I have no idea how we'll get a curtain pole across there? Every bay window curtain pole I've seen runs along the very top out from the wall, but with these windows the plastic goes right to the very top (though there is another piece of plastic sticking out in front of the window?)
Would running something across the ceiling part be an option? I'm worried it won't cover the top of the windows properly, and that it could be tricky to fit, and the ceiling part may not be strong enough anyway?
Any recommendations would be very welcome, thank you

Hi
Your bay looks very similar to ours and we have one of these

Although I think you would have to rethink the eyelet curtains and get ones with the traditional tape top as the pole attaches to the ceiling so some of the curtain is fixed IYSWIMThanks to all posters for your never ending help and support:beer:0 -
Yes, you can find bay window tracks which fasten upwards into the ceiling, but I have seen them come down in neighbours' houses because they weren't fastened to anything solid above the plasterboard ceiling - so eventually pulled back through.
The risk of this happening will depend partly on the weight of the pole, and also the heaviness of the curtain fabric / length of the curtains.
The risk can be counteracted by making sure that the pole goes into something more substantial above - but that probably means checking which way your first floor joists run and whether they could be used.0 -
With regards fixing in to plasterboard, I had the problem with fitted blinds that Yorkie described as they were attached to the ceiling. Quite a fright to hear them crashing down in the middle of the night!
Actually fixed it by using plasterboard rawl plugs like these http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/nails-screws-fixings-hardware/fixings/wall_plugs___screws/-specificproducttype-interset_fixings/Rawlplug-Interset-41625-M4-x-40-9281504?skuId=9291204
Screwing in to joists is probably more robust but thought I'd mention it0 -
Thank you all very much for the replies, it sounds like a lot of it will depend on the fixings then, and the way it's fixed - although unfortunately I don't think the joists will be an option in this case.
@dazed - the curtain pole you linked looks really nice, does it drop down from the ceiling?0 -
I have bought some and they work and look brilliant - see below. The corner ones are into the wall so super solid there and the others are with proper fixings into the plasterboard and ceiling mounted - Very secure and we have relatively expensive Laura Ashely curtains.....
