Taxing Car with no log book ?
I bought a second hand car which has an MOT until May 2015! I want to tax the car from the 1st of September 2014 which is the date my insurance starts, but the guy who sold me the car has lost the log book so he has sent for a new one with my details on the form to the DVLA but the new one hasn’t arrived yet! If it doesn’t arrive Monday morning will I be able to tax the car? And if so how. Thanks
P.S. I have done the necessary checks to make sure it hasn’t been a write off, or stolen or on finance, and I have checked all the previous M.O.T.s to make sure the mileage is accurate.

Don't think that will work. You either need the number on the V5C or the reference number on the reminder. If the OP hasn't either than I'm not sure he will get very far.0

The reference number on the reminder will tax it for the previous keeper, who will be posted the disc.
Luckily you can still transfer the tax when you change owners. As of October you can't transfer the tax, so it would be cancelled as soon as the transfer of owner went through.
I think you are stuck now.
I think that you could have applied for tax when you handed in the form applying for the new logbook as it is a change of keeper.
If you have a few hours to spare, and someone else is paying the 'phone bill, try ringing the DVLA.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I was at the local DVLA office before they closed them.
It was busy and a guy came down the line asking what people were there fo to give them forms to speed the queue up.
A guy behind me was trying to tax a car that wasnt in his name. He told him he couldn't.
The guy said what do i do then. The DVLA guy just said dont buy a car without a logbook and carried on down the line.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You used to be able to fill out the form requesting a logbook or saying you have lost your logbook and tax at the same time.
But it has been many years since i have done that so perhaps it has changed.
NB
And before any bright spark says there is no such thing as a logbook and it is a V5 I know and don't care.0 -
Complete a V62 (ticking the appropriate box that you purchased the vehicle but have not received the V5 yet) & take to the Post Office with your MOT. You will need to pay £25 though if you don't have the green slip (V5C2)
