I had really manky, mouldy mastic around my bath and behind the taps in the kitchen. I use thick bleach and squirt it over all the mastic. Leave it all day/night and it works very well.

I am going to try mocolo's bleach and bicarb mix next time I have mould starting. No matter how carefully I clean it comes back. :p
  • I've used the dettox mould and mildew spray before when I moved into a dingy flat once, but what really did the trick was flash spray with bleach, just sprayed on left for 5 mins and then rinsed away it was like new! I was so impressed I told my friend and when she saw it she rushed out and bought some and did her bathroom with it too!

Would Dettox be too strong to use for pinpricks of mould beginning to build up on vertical blinds? Not sure of the material.

    What would you use please?

    Hi there.

I have really nasty mould growning on my bedroom walls.
I have tried cleaning it off with a bleach solution (painted walls) but it has just come back again.

What can I do with it?

    TIA

could it be coming through from the other side of the wall? a quick investigation could throw something up, a leaking pipe or damp problem?

I agree with Liz, you should get that looked at.

Might be something really simple like a leaking drain pipe or blocked gutter causing water to soak into the bricks on the outside and eventually dampening the bricks on the inside (assuming its an outside facing wall).

we have mould too on our bathroom ceiling above the shower and some above the window. We dont' have an extractor fan as we should have.. well we do, had it for years and OH keeps promiising to ge tsomeone to fit it in, but never has. Anyway, we stick with opening the window. I've used vinegar on it, lemon juice, flash spray with bleach, but it's not totally gone.
I might try the bleach with bicarb see if that works.. only problem is, it's awkward to reach as it's over the bath (it's not a seperate shower).. so don't want anything dripping on my head!
As for cleaning tiles etc.. I'm usually ok cleaning the ones surrounding the bath (they're actually painted tiles), but the ones outside sometimes get left and get dusty rather than mouldy! I use the towel as was suggested earlier or an old mesh wash scrubby thing.

We use the bicarb and bleach paste too and it is great on tiles. My problem is the shower screen on the bath. Along the bottom edge where the screen rests on the bath, there is a rounded, hollow plastic seal. Inside this seal, there is lots of mould and I can't get at it to remove the mould. It looks gross. I've tried poking a thin stick in but that only worked for a few inches. I've tried to take the seal off the screen to clean it but it doesn't come off. How have others solved this problem please?

    Thanks!

We had a new bathroom fitted just over a year go and have twice had to have the sealant replaced by the bathroom company (warranty now run out and £100 call-out fee!).

We last had it replaced in July and it only took a couple of months for it to begin to go again, even though it's an expensive sealant with anti-fungal properties. Why should be have to keep replacing it ourselves every time this happens?

Our problem is we have bathroom panels, not tiles and the bathroom company say nothing stronger than washing-up liquid should be used in there.

I'm so tempted to try this Dettol Mould and Mildew remover, but daren't in case it bleaches the panels!

    Any advice anyone?
