How to buy shares in companys

I am interested in buying some shares, maybe £500 of Vodafone and £500 of Tesco shares, do I use someone like Equiniti because I have some shares registered with them which Ive had for 10 years, I plan to keep the Tesco and Vodafone shares for maybe 5 years so I dont need something like 10 trades per week, also is there a minimum amount of shares you can buy in a company. Thankyou in advance

have a look at the cheapest end of the execution only market, with trades as low as £5+stamp duty - iweb, x-o, SVS

Minimum amount is 1 share :)

and I wouldn't go buying Tesco shares right now ;)

Some of the online platforms allow "regular" trades for as little as £1.50, but you'll obviously also have the stamp duty to pay.

Be aware that only holding two companies exposes you to a lot of risk. Are you sure you wouldn't rather buy shares in an Investment Trust or similar?

As for how many shares, you can buy just one if you want, but trading costs will kill you. Even £500 is a fairly small sum, which is why you need to keep fixed fees low.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.
