  • Hiya, been on hold for ages. I'm going to have to ring when I get back as I have to pick up my little one from nursery. Will let you know though

    Thanks, any news yet?
  • Total waste of time to be honest. They were really busy on hold forever only to be told their systems don't update until after the 1st of September

Thanks for letting me know. Will probably update over night, will have to try and call them tomorrow
  • That's no problem. I'm going to ring them tomorrow too

Did you get through to speak to them, I have been trying all morning but it keeps cutting me off!
  • If you have already informed them of the change then it really isnt worth ringing a you are wasting your own time. As Blondebubbles has said, the system is updated on 1st September and when you ring to advise of the change you are told you may notice a change in your payments while the change is taking place but that will be corrected and any missing payments will be made to you when they have updated the systems.
No One I Think Is In My Tree.
  • Hiya yes I did. The systems are updated over the first week in September
But can take a little longer
  • Similar issue here except my payment dropped to zero. I too had been assured there would be no break in payments :(

Seems to me they just need to give out correct information. Or at the very least put something on the website regarding this. My DD1 officially began higher education yesterday and whilst I understand the need to avoid over payments as not all 16 year old's will go on to further education they could have avoided the barrage of calls received by giving correct information when we called initially.

Probably also would have helped if the member of staff on the phone was less vague. "Probably get a payment in about a week or so but might take longer" isn't really helpful - especially followed by "yeah, this happens every year" - not as if they didn't know 1st September was on it's way!

To answer the OP, £125 is relative. That's almost as much as I receive in a month. Have you looked at the calculator? Is it possible that your case is similar to mine in that all child tax credit has stopped but you have been paid the disability elements?

I'll update when I hear something, generally any changes I've reported have taken effect in a few days (overnight on the occasion an overpayment was detected ;)) I just feel for those that rely on that money, the system as it is could do with some tweaking.

  • The staff can't tell you anymore than that though. If your payments haven't been calculated they can't guess when they will be.

As stated on previous posts, it is part of their guidance to inform you this will happen when you make the update.

Thanks. I did feel incredibly sorry for the member of staff I spoke to yesterday (and told him so!) but after 45 minutes in a queue to be told that the two previous people had given me wrong information I was extremely frustrated. Had there been a note on the website regarding post-16 education I wouldn't have called.

As the situation was I'd scoured the website, I knew bank details and address hadn't changed and I knew my renewal had been processed (I received the final reward and have called about something else since and confirmed it) so I had no clue why it had stopped given the previous (incorrect) information I'd been given. At which point the website advises to call. I just needed to know why and if there was something I needed to do.

Turns out I just need to wait but I feel like I've wasted my time and the time of the person I spoke to. Being as my query was resolved in less than 5 minutes I can't imagine how many times he'd had to repeat the same information that day and would continue to have to over the next few days :(
