Amazon Partners

If you purchase from Amazon be very careful if your order is placed through another company. You may have great difficulty canceling as once the order is placed Amazon will want nothing more to do with you.

If you look under 'Help' on the Amazon website it does state clearly that Amazon cannot assist buyers in cancelling any orders placed from Amazon Marketplace sellers (unless the order was fulfilled by Amazon).
I guess it was just case of you not reading 'the small print' before placing an order.

Which is why he/she is being public-spirited in warning others against being caught out.
The other day I ordered a new camera from Amazon and searched for a cheap SD card on the site. Loads of 'bargains' came up and I found it hard to tell which could simply add to my order and which would double/ triple in price once the Amazon partners had added several pounds to post me a minuscule SD card.
So I ordered the SD from Play.com.0 -

I didn't mean the OP was not being public-spirited.
Just pointing out that his/her problem could have been avoided (as could quite a few other issues posted on here) by reading the terms and conditions. :rolleyes:0 -
The thing is tho alot of people go to Amazon and think they are buying off Amazon no matter what they buy , i dont know anywhere else that sells items from a 3rd party on there site, as Amazon has got to be one of the worlds best known sites i really dont know why they do this.0

I refuse to buy the second hand books on Amazon after trying to order 4 books with postage and packing it would have come to approx £30. The same deal with Amazon buying brand new books was £15.00 including free postage.0

In reply to Pollycat I did read the "small print" and I did know it was not coming from Amazon. What I did say is that contrary to what Amazon state, if you want to cancel something that you ordered from their web page and had money taken by Amazon from your credit card its no good going to Amazon to complain. Even though your contract was with Amazon.0

I don't want to seem to harp on about this or appear conentious, but the small print clearly states that that Amazon cannot assist buyers in cancelling any orders placed from Amazon Marketplace sellers (unless the order was fulfilled by Amazon).

If you read the part titled 'Cancelling Orders from Third-Party Sellers', it seems crystal clear to me and I can't understand why you thought Amazon could help in these circumstances.
Where does it say on the website that Amazon CAN help in orders places with 3rd party sellers?
You were aware that the goods were not supplied by Amazon.
Although deanos disagrees, from the experience I've had with Amazon, I personally think that it is very clear on the Amazon website whether you are buying from Amazon UK, Amazon Jersey or a 3rd party supplier.
For example, I've recently been looking at a book titled 'The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail'.
My search showed 14 hits.
If I click on the first 2, it clearly says (under 'Availabililty')
Availability: In stock. Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.
If I click on the 3rd item, it clearly says (under 'Availabililty')
Availability: Available from these sellers
clicking on 'these sellers' takes you to a list of 3rd party sellers.
I appreciate that this may be different for others goods and would be pleased if someone can give me examples of where the above is not correct.
I do agree with changkra about the sometimes prohibitive cost of P&P charged by some of these 3rd party sellers.
I would only ever buy from them if a particular book I really wanted was out-of-print and I couldn't find it anywhere else.
It's only in recent years that Amazon have started doing 'Free Super Saver Delivery' for orders over £15 which has made them more competitive.
I'm always very careful when placing orders with any internet company, and whilst I appreciate that the OP had a problem with his purchase from Amazon and has brought it to people's attention on MSE, I felt it fair to point out that his original post gave the impression that Amazon 'wanted nothing more to do with him' when the reality was that they were very clear that they would be unable to assist in the circumstances that the OP found himself in.
And, before anyone asks:
No, I don't work for Amazon and never have, neither do any of my family or friends and never have.

I apologise if you thought I was getting at you there.
I wasn't.
This is a 'Warnings & Rip-Offs' forum and you were bringing an issue about Amazon to people's attention.
I don't have a problem with that at all, I just thought that there were 2 sides to this.
