ppi back to 1992/3

hi,
i have just had an offer from hsbc which i have accepted for ppi from 2001.
when i applied to them to reclaim initially it was for a loan i took out in 1992/3 which i am certain i had ppi. when the guy called me a few weeks ago from hsbc he said that they have no record of ppi with that loan but had found one from 2001 which had ppi on.
he said that if i was certain i had ppi on the earlier loan i would need to provide evidence of this as it is a long time ago and they don't keep records. I don't have a record of it as it was so long ago but i feel a bit peeved that if i don't have records i cant claim, i remember that i was told i wasnt allowed the loan without payment protection desite being in a job that paid out if i was off work etc
any tips on what i can do, or should i just give up with it as i have no loan records for that far back? thanks in advance

I doubt there would be records as they say, you will have to give up on this one.
A Sar will cost £10, you could try this, but may not yield anything.
If you paid the 1st loan off with the 2nd one, it is possible the agreement for loan 2 will show the first one being repaid with the proceeds of the 2nd, ask the bank to check as if you repaid this early, you would have paid the remaining PPI after the rebate back in with the 1st loan settlement, there is no harm in asking, this is a very long shot but you never know.0
