?Highchairs

::)
Have 5 month old baby and desperately trying to find highchair - were hoping somene might offer hand-me-down but no luck. But planning more (babies not highchairs) so don't want to get it wrong and then have to re-buy! All-singing all-dancing ones seem to be £100+ - are they really necessary? Any recommendatrion?
Thanks so much for all the tips which have been a big help on a tight budget

    Hi Fee2

I got one fron Ikea for about £15 and one from John Lewis for about £25.

The Ikea one is fantastic. Plastic so it is easy to clean, and my little boy love sitting in it. Only downside is that it doesn't have the 5 point harness but I have never found this to be a problem.

My John Lewis one is a travel one and good also. But is harder to keep clean. if you do shop at John Lewis you'll find extra money off vouchers at the following link

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Voucher;action=display;num=1079549085

it expires on 30/06 and is for first time customers. go through r points and you'll get points as well. (if your not a member you can click on the link at the bottom of this message for me toi be your referer)

Link for the highchair at ikea above, need to buy strap and tray separtely.

I highly highly recommend the M&P Prima Pappa.

Granted they cost £100+ but you can pick up a 2nd hand one on ebay for half that especially if you find one you can collect instead of paying for p&p or look in the local paper.

We didn't buy one 1st time round and opted for a cheaper one which my daughter started using when she could sit up and then didn't stay in it for long as she didn't like the feeling of being hemmed in. In contrast our friends had the M&P one, used it from weaning and are still using it at 2 1/2 years!

So with baby no2 on the way we've sold the rubbish one and have already got the M&P (from ebay). Daughter 1 is using it without the table to sit in front of the telly as a chair and won't be happy to give it up when the baby needs it!

So it is multi-functional and it'll last all your future children. :D

If you look in you local Ad Trade there is a lot of baby items for sale in here including highchairs.

I got a travel highchair second hand from an independant baby shop for £10. My usual highchair is a fold flat chair from mothercare which at the time cost £40 I think they are around £60 now.  It is fantastic and easy to store and clean. It fits into the back of the car easily. The main reason I have travel ones is so I can leave them at my mothers or if we are taking a large amount of stuff away with us. for weekends or overnight trips etc the fold flat highchairs are fine.

We got a big singing dancing highchair for our eldest which served it's purpose when number 2 arrived and got a bit older they were sat too far apart at meal times and it wasn't at all suitable so we bought a booster seat chair which fits onto an existing chair for £14.99 from safeway, it was great, I would recommend covering the chair if it is fabric though, we could fold it up and take it out with us, we took it to restaurants and on holiday, they are from age 6 months, also the chair still fitted under the table so it wasn't taking up lots of space like the big highchair did.

I would never have bothered with the bigger highchair if I'd have known how good the booster seat.

Thanks so much for the advice. We went to Babies are Us and the Mamas and Papas Prima Pappa was reduced to £90. however there was a Babies r us own brand (Bruin) highchair with all the same features for £70. The Babies R Us catalogue had a £10 discount vouvher for highchairs over £70 and also a £5 off a y spend over £30 voucher...but each said could only be used on own, not in conjunction with any other offer etc. however girl on till put both through so got for £55 and was delighted with that. So anyone going there its worth chancing your arm. Thanks again
