  • I ve used This company to reduce my business rates on my public house,The appeal was completed relatively quickly and i found them very pleasant to deal with ....... I m surprised at some of the negative comments on this site....
You can do this yourself for free... all you need to do is fill a form out correctly for the VOA.... So NO need to pay them or any other company to do this just contact the Valuation Office Direct on 03000 501501.. Sounds like just another company trying to make money out of small businesses ;(

I was contacted by this company in November 2014. Their proposal was to alter my rating list which would be backdated from 2010. I agreed to proceed and they sent me a letter by recorded delivery which I signed and I agreed to pay a reduced amount of £564, should have been £495 plus VAT.

I was given a target date for the appeal which has now come and gone. I have contacted the VOA who informed me the documents which they had sent to Carter Mills had been returned by the Royal Mail as there was no one at the premises.
The original phone number on the documents 02476 222 229 doesn't ring and I have finally managed to contact them today on 0845 459 0327 after many attempts and I was told someone will ring me back as their system was not working.

Don't waste your money. Appeal to the VOA yourself. I will update this post when/if I hear from them.

Really sorry to hear that Carter Mills ripped you off. We would have paid too but couldn't get through on the numbers.

They are just scum. Making a business out of thieving from honest business people. I hope they get prosecuted.

They , like others like them , will say you only have to pay if the appeal is succesful .........you will then find in the very small print that this means succesfully lodged , which of course all appeals are , and you will become liable to pay their fee.

Interestingly I had a company look at ours last year , no fee upfront and no fee unless we were given a rebate , they looked into our case and advised us not to proceed as the likely outcome would be an increase ( backdated)

  • As george54 advised I have not paid Carter Mills. They called and spoke to a member of staff who were told that if I did not contact them by the end of the day they would proceed with legal proceedings. At this point I contacted Action Fraud and reported the incident, the same as george54, they were very helpful and told me under no circumstances was I to pay Carter Mills. I actually asked him again to repeat that I should not pay them, he said I will probably receive threatening letters etc etc but to ignore them & report them to Action Fraud. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE IF CARTER MILLS CALL HANG UP!!! :A
  • This company nearly had me for the half of £495.00 + VAT that I paid them to do my rates review. After getting nowhere and never being able to get through on the Phone number - I turned up at their office in Coventry. I got my money back within the week - I suggest anyone or a group of you do the same. Top floor office turn left door without a company on it or it was 1 year ago, wait for someone to come out of the downstairs keypad door to slip in the building. Good Luck
