Pre 2005 Barclaycard PPI claim rejected

Hi All,
I have sucessfully claimed my Halifax (pre 2005) PPI but was rejected by Barclaycard.
The reason given was that:
"I have identified that your application for PPI was submitted by post. This means that at the point of applying for PPI we did not give you any advice. You made your own decision as to whether you required the policy and could have benefited from this. This policy started on 20 January 1997..."
When I applied I was 20, I have snet off for and received a SAR and the Data Protection records from my account. This included the original application form, however the copy is so bad that I just about make out what I think is the "Payment Protection Plan" but cannot read the few lines describing what it is next to the check box.
Has anyone experienced this? I did not need the PPI from what I know now (still living at home, in full time employment etc), and at the time this was taken out we did not have internet access so it was not as easy to go and search for more information.
Can anyone give any advice on how to appeal this with Barclaycard (which they suggested I do first, before going to the Ombudsman).
TIA,
Olie.

The fact that this is a pre-2005 complaint is completely irrelevant since Banks were already regulated before this time.
The crux of the matter is that you applied for the card and insurance by post and this means that, if anything you mis-bought the insurance since no one from the Bank actually (mis)sold it to you.
I don't see how you can successfully appeal this decision with the Bank or the Ombudsman. Again, the fact that you apparently didn't need the insurance is irrelevant-you elected to have it without any bank staff involvement.0 -
did not need the PPI from what I know now (still living at home, in full time employment etc),
Full time employment verifies you wer eligible (so not a complaint reason). Living at home is irrelevant as you can still suffer illness or be made redundant living at home.
it is difficult to see what your complaint reasons are from your post. Can you clarify them please?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
